You must optimise your Google Business Profile (also known as Google My Business) to get the most out of it. Here are a few quick and easy ways to accomplish this.
Google is the most visited website on the planet. The site currently controls more than 92 percent of the search engine market. Creating a Google Business Profile (formerly known as Google My Business) is a critical step in attracting new customers through Google search and Maps.

What is google my business Profile
Google Business Profile is a free Google business listing. It allows you to provide information and photos about your company, such as its location, services, and products.
Creating this free profile is an excellent way to boost your visibility across Google services. Your Google Business Profile information may appear in Google Search, Google Maps, and Google Shopping.
Google Business Profile is only available to companies that have customer contact. This includes both physical businesses (such as a restaurant or store) and businesses that provide services by meeting with clients in other locations (like consultants or plumbers)
If you only do business online, you’ll have to rely on Google tools like Google Ads and Google Analytics.
Get discovered in Google (and Google Maps)
Google is the ultimate search referrer, whether you’re looking for foot traffic or web traffic. A Google Business Profile helps people find your company when they are looking for similar products and services in their area.
Your Google My Business listing directs searchers to your location and directions. A Google Business Profile can also help your local SEO. A listing for a local business, in particular, is more likely to appear when people search for a nearby business using Google Maps.
Build trust through reviews
Reviews are an important component of social proof and a valuable way to build trust and credibility.
Customers can share as much or as little information about their experience with your business as they like using Google’s combined star rating and space for detailed reviews. All of this helps future customers decide which businesses to visit and which products to purchase.
It can be frightening to consider receiving reviews on such a public platform, especially since you can’t choose which Google My Business reviews to share. (However, as we’ll explain later, you can respond to all reviews.)
But don’t worry: Google discovered that a mix of positive and negative reviews is more trustworthy than page after page of glowing recommendations.
Control your online business information
Your Google My Business profile allows you to manage and update your contact information, business hours, and other important information as needed.
You can post updates to let people know that you’ve expanded your services, temporarily closed, or completely reopened (an especially useful feature during emergencies like COVID-19). Because Google Business Profiles have strong local SEO, the information you share will rank higher than third-party sites that may have out-of-date information.

Sign in to Google Business Profile Manager
If you already have a Google account, you will be logged into Google Business Profile Manager. Otherwise, use your existing Google account login information or create a new Google account.
Add your business
Enter the name of your company. Click Add your business to Google if it does not appear in the drop-down menu. Then, choose the appropriate category for your company and click Next.
Enter your location
Select Yes if you have a physical location where customers can visit. Then enter your company’s address. You may also be asked to place a marker on a map to indicate the location. If your company does not have a physical location but provides in-person services or deliveries, you can list your service areas. Then press the Next button.
If you did not enter a physical address, Google will ask you to specify your location. Select an option from the drop-down menu and then click Next.
Fill in your contact information
Enter your company phone number and website address so that customers can contact you. You are not required to enter a phone number if you do not want to be reached by phone.
When you’ve finished entering your information, click Next.
Verify your business
Enter your actual physical address, not a PO Box. This information is only used to verify your business and is not displayed or shared with the public on your Google Business Profile.
Enter your address and then press the Next button. You will be given the appropriate options for verifying your account. To verify their location, physical businesses will need to receive a postcard in the mail. An email address can be used to verify service-area businesses.
Enter your five-digit code on the next screen (or go to https://business.google.com/) and click Verify or Verify business.
You’ll see a confirmation screen indicating that you’ve been verified. Click Next on that screen.
Customize your profile
Enter your business hours, preferred messaging, business description, and photos. (We’ll go over how to optimise your profile content in the following section of this post.)
When you’re finished, click Continue. You’ll be taken to the Business Profile Manager dashboard.
You can manage your business profile, view insights, manage reviews and messages, and create Google ads from this page.
How to optimize your Google My Business profile
Google bases its local search ranking on three factors:
- Relevance: The degree to which your Google My Business listing matches a search query.
- Distance: The distance between your location and the search or searcher.
- Prominence: How well-known is your company? (based on factors like links, number of reviews, review score, and SEO)
Here are some strategies for improving your overall score across all three factors.
Complete all elements of your profile
Customers are 2.7 times more likely to trust your company if it has a complete Google Business Profile. They’re also 70% more likely to visit your establishment.
According to Google, “businesses with complete and accurate information are easier to match with the right searches.” This raises your relevance score. The key is to inform Google visitors about “what you do, where you are, and when they can visit.”
Keep your business hours up to date if they change due to holidays or seasons.
Verify your location(s)
Verified business locations are “likelier to appear in local search results across Google products, such as Maps and Search.” Including a verified location also improves your distance ranking factor score.
If you did not verify your location during the account creation process, you can do so now at https://business.google.com/.
